William L. Tyner, 85, of Fishers, jumped ship Thursday, January 23,2025. Uncle Bill served on the USS Lexington during his tour of duty with the US Navy. The irony that he served in the Navy and couldn’t swim perfectly matched his jovial personality.
Bill’s training as an Electronics Technician Radar paved the way for his college days at Tri-State University and eventual career as an electrical engineer at the RCA TV factory in Bloomington, IN. His career allowed him the flexibility to serve his true north which was encapsulated in the saying, “greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friends.”
Bill loved people. He set the stage by caring for his mom and dad throughout their lifetimes and his many friends at McDoel Baptist Church. His concern for people ran through his core. He gave his time, talent and treasure to those around him.
He was a proficient collector. Among his interests were guns, stamps, coins, radios, cameras along with a few other odds and ends. He spent hours loading, shooting and enjoying his guns. He shared his interests in stamps and coins with his mom, Ervena Tyner. His love for her was a standard few could match. They blessed their community with their annual “Santa Claus Cookie” efforts. It’s your loss if you never made their short list of recipients!
His greatest passion was his intimate friendship with his Savior, Jesus. He discovered how precious in the sight of the Lord he was on Thursday! And would want nothing greater than to understand God’s love for you! And upon that revelation, he would know you would “keep smiling!”
He was preceded in death by his loving mom, Ervena (Hollandbeck) Tyner; dad, Ralph Waldo Tyner; brother, Ralph Wendall Tyner.
Survivors include his nephew, Dr. Ralph R. Tyner; niece, LeeAnn McCarty (Russell); and nephew, Keith Tyner (Connie); a slew of great nieces and nephews including, Adam (Stacia), Mary Lynn(Shawn), Jennifer(Isaac), James(Amber), Caitlin, Kelly, Kristen(Brock), Kacie(Kevin) and Caleb(Judah). And way too many extended loved ones to mention.
In lieu of flowers or donations, take a friend to lunch and tell them a funny Bill story!
