William “Bill” Kennedy, 85, died peacefully on April 3, 2020 in Indianapolis after an extended illness. He was born in Winfield, Kansas on October 14, 1933, to William and Vera Kennedy.
Bill was raised as an only child in rural Kansas and lived in St John until leaving to attend Kansas St University where he graduated in 1956. Bill was the Cadet Colonel of the Air Force ROTC program at KSU. The US Air Force commissioned him as an officer where Bill proudly served his country. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the US General Accounting Office. Bill was a CPA and an auditor. In his later years, he had an accounting and real estate business.
In 1960 Bill married Elda, an Italian he met while at Upper Heyford AFB in England. They enjoyed traveling the English countryside in Bill’s Sunbeam car. He loved Elda’s Italian cooking and her Italian accent. Survivors include three children, Sonya (Gregory ) Huyck, Viviana (Jeff) Newman, and Andrew (Danielle) Kennedy; six grandchildren, Craig, Drew, Cara, Trevor, Lleyton, and Lewis; sisters-in-law, Tina and Eva; and nephews and nieces. Together, Bill and Elda enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until Elda’s passing in 2012.
Bill loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s music and sporting events. Bill loved working on cars and learning about computers. He also loved taking walks with Elda in the evening and then having a cup of coffee with her. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Carmel IN.
Bill’s family will always miss Bill’s smile, his great life guidance, and his willingness to help do anything. Bill bravely fought against Parkinson’s disease until his very last day.
A small private family service will be held April 8, 2020. Bill will be laid to rest next to Elda in Carmel Cemetery. A future Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held once the Coronavirus pandemic precautions have lifted.
