Timothy Murphy Obituary

Timothy Murphy, 73, of Carmel, IN, passed away at home on May 3, 2025, after a brave three-year fight with cancer. He is now at peace, surrounded by the love of the Lord.

Tim was the deeply cherished husband of Janet (Picciotti) Murphy for 47 years.  He was a devoted father to four children.  Ryan (Michelle) of California, Michael (Emily) of Noblesville, Timothy John (Ashley) of Carmel, and Heather Miech (Matt) of Rhode Island. Papa Tim was the proud grandfather to 10 beautiful grandchildren, who brought him immense joy – Sienna, Aiden, Finnegan, Margot, Jameson, Noah, Madison, Palmer, DJ, and Penny.  Tim is also now reunited with his stillborn daughter, Joy Christine.

Born in Cleveland, OH, on September 25, 1951, Tim was the son of the late George and Anne Marie (Murdock) Murphy. He is also survived by his brother, Neal Murphy, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Trela Murphy.

A dedicated scholar and professional, Tim earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Cleveland State University. Upon graduation, he joined Gould in Cleveland, where he met his future wife, Janet. Tim’s job soon took them overseas to England, where they spent two wonderful years before returning home to Ohio. Tim’s career continued to flourish, with roles at Unisys in Minneapolis and Vantiva (formerly RCA) in Indianapolis. Throughout his career, Tim was recognized for his brilliance and dedication, receiving multiple Scientific Achievement Awards and holding three patents in his name.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tim’s greatest legacy is his unwavering devotion to his family. A patient and loving father, he coached his children’s baseball teams, guided them through school projects, and sparked their imaginations with countless creative experiences. Whether building forts, inventing gadgets, or simply spending time fishing or at the gun range, Tim found joy in sharing these moments with those he loved. His creativity and enthusiasm not only shaped his children’s lives but also created lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

Tim’s other passion included his love of reading, a simple pleasure that brought him peace and reflection. He lived with a deep sense of curiosity and a desire to explore the world around him, both through his work and in the quiet moments with his family.
