Thomas Joseph Brewster, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed away suddenly at his home in Ringgold, GA, Thursday December 1, 2022. He was born October 28, 1942 in Portland, (Jay County) IN, the firstborn son of Harold E Brewster and Virginia Lee Stonerock.
Following high school graduation, Tom enlisted in the Army, choosing the Military Police as his MOS. He served in several posts in the United States, particularly Fort Gordon, GA where he went through MP school. Thereafter, he was stationed at Fort Monroe, VA, Fort Collins, CO, and Fort Riley before going to Vietnam in September1965. He finished his service at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN where he met and married his wife, of 55 years, they were married on August 18, 1967 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, and lived in Lawrence, IN for 27 years before moving to Georgia.
After leaving the Army, Tom worked for the Lawrence Police Department from 1968 until 1971 and the Marion County Sheriff's Department from 1972 until his retirement in 1995. He also worked part-time at the University of Indianapolis (campus police) under Chief Keith Smith. After retiring and moving to Georgia, he worked security at Beaulieu Carpet Industry; Regional Youth Detention Center, and Dalton State College (campus police).
He is survived by his wife, Linda Duke Brewster of Ringgold; sons, Kevin (Debbie) Brewster, Lawrence, IN and Kenneth (Casey)Brewster; two grandsons, Joseph Duke and Jonathan Perry Brewster all of Seattle, WA; two step-grandchildren, Jason Trinh and Jamie Trinh; one brother, Peter Andrew (Teresa) Brewster of Piqua, OH; niece, Erin Brewster Robertson and nephew, Thomas Andrew (Teri) Brewster also of Piqua, OH. Also a special thanks and appreciation to Holly Braden, foster daughter, of Russiaville, IN, and Lyn Stacy, friend of Ringgold, GA, for their love and support.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St Lawrence Catholic Church, 4650 N Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, from 11:30 am till 1:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 pm.
The burial will take place in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials in Tom's memory can be made to your Greyhound adoption program of choice; ASPCA, or the American Heart Association.
Donations to any Greyhound program would be most appreciated as Tom and Linda were strong advocates of retired racing Greyhounds, their home being graced with 17 retired racers from 1989 to the present.
