Steven L. DeGroot

Steven DeGroot, 73, passed away peacefully in Carmel, Indiana on December 12, 2024, surrounded by love and laughter. Steven’s life was a testament to the importance of family—both the one we are born into and the one we create.

Survivors include his son, Brandon and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Makaylin and Zander; Steven cherished his close relationships with his cousins, Chet and Kari, as well as best friend Nancy, and her children, Jackie and Kevin, and her two grandchildren.  

Steven’s love for life was evident in everything he did. As a skilled chef, he brought joy to countless people through his cooking, believing that food was one of the most powerful ways to bring people together. He had a deep appreciation for nature, finding peace on camping trips under the stars. He also found companionship and purpose in the dogs he trained and adored throughout his life.

A lifelong lover of books, Steven found endless adventures, often sharing his favorite stories and ideas with those around him. Above all, Steven valued time spent with family and friends, whether sharing a story, or laughing.

Steven’s life reflected kindness, resilience, and the joy of simple pleasures. His quick wit and sharp sense of humor brought laughter to every room, leaving those around him with smiles and stories they’ll never forget.

A celebration of Steven’s life will be held privately by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Steven by spending time with those you love, enjoying a good book, or sharing a meal in his memory.
