Steven Cooley Obituary

Steve Cooley was born on November 12th, 1954, in Terre Haute, IN, and adopted by Elbert and Jennie Cooley. Steve graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1972. He grew up living by the Indiana State Football stadium with his brother David and sister Susan. Steve gravitated towards sports at an early age, excelling at baseball and basketball, even playing for the legendary Howard Sharpe.

He took a job in the mail room at the post office in Terre Haute throwing mail. This entry-level position helped him develop an unusual skill. If you riddle off a zip code - he could tell you the town. Steve worked diligently, climbing the ranks of the post office, and ultimately retiring as the Safety Inspector of the state of Indiana.

Steve married Judy Carlson in Terre Haute, IN. Together they had three children, Steven, Heather, and Bradford. They raised their children in Fort Wayne, IN, and Zionsville, IN - where all three children graduated high school. In reflection, Steve's fondest life memories revolved around raising his children and spending time with his family.

During this time, Steve also found his birth mother, Elois Fox, and built a meaningful relationship with his biological mother and family. This also allowed his children to enjoy many grandparents and a new understanding of who he was.

Steve was an incredibly kind, soft-spoken man with grandiose ambitions. While undoubtedly hyper-intelligent, taking on hobbies of software development, writing computer code, studying advanced math, and developing complex algorithms - he remained modest. He looked up to George Soros' methodical trading strategies and was inspired by the sermons of Kenneth Copeland. His Kenneth Copeland edition King James bible laid open wherever he was.

Bradford will forever remember attending Blackhawk games in Chicago with his father. Heather will always remember the lunches and dinners at Olive Garden, bragging about his impeccable achievements and success. Steven will remember all the one-on-one basketball games as a boy. Collectively they will always remember the man that raised them, guided their faith, and showed them the importance of work ethic and well-intentioned kindness.

Steve Cooley wrote in his Bible - "Entering into God's rest - is an indication you have faith in the finished works of Jesus Christ."

Steve Cooley is survived by Judy McBride, his children, Steven and Hasina Cooley, Heather Cooley, and Bradford Cooley. His Grandchildren are Aidan Parker, Abner Cooley, Emil Cooley, and Nile Cooley. His Brother David Cooley, sister Susan Entwisle, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
