Stephen Voorhees Obituary

Stephen Holbrook Voorhees, 84, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1941, in Logansport, Indiana, to Wilson and Cathryn Francis (Gabriel) Voorhees. He was a graduate of Logansport High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree from DeVry College, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in electronics, broadcasting, and photography.

Stephen dedicated 37 years of service to WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis, where his work took him across the state and throughout the country. He was known for his technical expertise, reliability, and passion for his craft. In addition to his broadcasting career, Stephen owned a photography business and served as an IMS photographer, engineer, and freelance photographer for the Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts. His work captured moments both historic and personal, and his commitment to excellence earned him deep respect within the industry.

A proud member of the National Guard, Stephen also belonged to the Logansport Elks and the Communication Workers of America. He was honored as a 20-year member of the Indianapolis 500 Old-Timers, a distinction that reflected his long-standing involvement and appreciation for motorsports.

Stephen was a man of remarkable curiosity and ingenuity. He built early computers, repaired nearly anything electronic, and was the go-to person for solving technical problems. He enjoyed big band music, collected early records, participated in a short-wave radio club, and even took flying lessons. Some of his happiest times were spent living at Lake James in Angola, Indiana, and traveling the United States in the Channel 13 truck—always with a camera close at hand.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Ann (Frechtenight) Voorhees; and son, Philip Arthur Voorhees.

Survivors include his brother, Richard Voorhees of Logansport; two nephews; and great-niece and great-nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.

No services will be held at this time. Stephen’s legacy lives on through the images he captured, the technology he mastered, and the many lives he touched with his generosity, talent, and quiet kindness.
