Sandra Rose (Parker) Wells, 82, of Cloverdale, passed away November 15, 2024. She was born in Indianapolis on May 27, 1942, daughter of the late Everett Parker and Rosemary (Anderson) McDonald.
Sandy was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. She continued her education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing where she received her nursing degree in 1963.
Fueled by her desire to make a difference in people’s lives, Sandy started her nursing career in independent physicians’ offices. After moving back to the Indianapolis area, Sandy began a 22-year career at St. Francis Hospital, Greenwood. She was respected for her tenacity, servant leadership, and collaborative spirit, mentoring countless nurses and nurse leaders while serving as manager of NICU, Pediatric and Women’s Medical Surgery Units. Sandy also served as a Commissioned Officer in the Naval Reserves, providing medical and nursing support at the Naval Hospital on weekends.
Sandy had always been a skilled seamstress and in retirement, she made her first quilt. Largely self-taught, Sandy was gifted with the talent for the use of, and combinations of, colorful fabrics that produced amazing quilts. She gifted her precious quilts to family and friends, and they are cherished keepsakes of her eternal love. Sandy’s quilt-work was highly respected, and several pieces won local and regional awards.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 62 years, Richard “Dick” Wells; sons, Richard II “Rich” (Allyson) Wells of Lake Bluff, IL, Darrin (Brenda) Wells of Reelsville, IN, and Kevin Wells of Avon, IN; grandchildren, Richard III “R.A.” (Katie) Wells, Shelby (Max) Lowe, Taylor (Daniel) Woehl, Michael Wells, Trevor Wells, and Lillian Wells; great-grandchildren, Drea, Zane, Henry, Easton, Ava and Paul.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, November 26, at 10 am in Soul Harvest Church, 14 Crosswinds Street, Cloverdale, IN 46120, where the Funeral Service will begin at 12 pm officiated by Pastor Matt Nichols.
Burial will follow in Cloverdale Cemetery.
