Ruth Ann Gallmeier, born May 18, 1925, entered into peace and true amazement in the presence of God May 19, 2021. Ruth was born in Fort Wayne, IN, daughter of Josephine and Gerry Tonkel and was one of five children.
Ruth married Elmer Gallmeier during World War II when Elmer was on a 7 day leave in the Navy. Afterward, Elmer survived his ship being torpedoed, sunk and then came home where he and Ruth shared their lives together for 66 years.
Ruth always said her greatest joy was being a wife and the mother of her two children, Ronald (deceased) and Candice. Ruth and Elmer’s lives centered around their church and family. They loved camping with their extended family and traveling.
In retirement they enjoyed their Florida home and community involvement. They volunteered at the Chapel by the Sea church, McDonald’s House, the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, and were social directors for their community. Ruth faced many physical challenges later in life with a determined attitude of prayer and positivity, which helped her accept these challenges.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; and son, Ronald.
Survivors include her daughter, Candice Gallmeier; granddaughter, Erynne Hart (husband Ryan); great-grandsons, Ethan and Louden, along with nieces and nephews, who were very much loved.
