Robert C. Cameron, 92, of Westfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters, February 10, 2021. He was born September 29, 1928 in Chicago, son of Ernest and Bertha (Underwood) Cameron.
Bob grew up in a large family on the north side of Chicago. During high school, he met “Dee” on a double date, who later became his wife on February 10, 1951.
Bob was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean conflict. During active combat in North Korea, Bob was wounded, requiring nine surgeries and many months in recovery. He was awarded 2 Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart commendation.
In 1953, as a disabled veteran, Bob and Dee settled in Indianapolis. He began working as a Pay Specialist, Field Quality Assistance, and Quality Control in the Army Finance and Accounting Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison. He retired after 34 years. In 1958, Bob and Dee moved to Carmel where they raised their two daughters, Kimberly and Krista.
Bob was artistically very creative. He loved to design and decorate with his wife, Dee. They created beautiful homes and enjoyed spending time antiquing. During his adult life, Bob was an artist and designed many beautiful stained-glass windows. As a dedicated artist, he began painting in oils and later watercolors. He loved the detailed precision work of painting birds, animals, and nature scenes.
Bob was a skilled golfer and proud of his many hole in ones. During their retirement years, Bob and Dee enjoyed golfing together as well as walking, traveling with friends, and visiting their daughters. In his later years, Bob appreciated time spent with Kimberly and Krista working puzzles.
Bob was a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church and last attended the Church of the Nativity in Lawrence. Other memberships included the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), American Legion, and the VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars).
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Ann (Howell) Cameron and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include daughters, Kimberly Ann Cameron English and husband, Bernard of Carmel, IN, The Reverend Krista Ann Cameron of Rochester, NY; grandsons, Robert, Paul, and Joseph English of Carmel, IN; brother, Ernest Cameron of Chicago, IL and beloved niece, Jacqueline Zak of Phoenix, AZ.
A graveside service in Carmel cemetery, with military honors, will be conducted in early summer.
