Richard Harris Obituary

Richard Floyd Harris, 87, Of Whitestown, IN, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021. He was born December 23, 1933 in Findlay, OH to Floyd Ruhl and Ruth Louise Gordon Harris.

He was a graduate of Findlay High School, OH. Richard was a proud veteran of the US Navy where he served on the USS Orion receiving the National Defense Service Medal.

Richard was employed with RCA (now Thomson Consumer Electronics) as a Department Supervisor, Engineer and Machinist before retiring after 35 years.

He was an active member of the Raccoon Bass Anglers, where he was awarded Mr. Bass 1995, the American Legion, and Masonic Lodge #646.  In North Park Masonic Lodge #646, Richard served as Past Master.

Richard loved to play cribbage, working many different types of puzzles, painting, reading science fiction books, and spending time researching genealogy.  He was a self-taught computer nerd and enjoyed his woodworking crafts.  When physically able, he also loved to play golf, go fishing, camping, and bowling. A man of many talents and skills, Richard built and raced his own sprint cars. He also enjoyed dancing, was an often-requested DJ, as well as weightlifting.

Following retirement, he and his wife traveled the United States looking for the perfect place to retire before settling down in lovely Mesa, Arizona. While in Mesa, he built his retirement community’s computer classroom and then managed/taught computer and smartphone technology classes to all who wanted to learn. He never saw a computer he could not master.  In 2016, he returned to Indiana to be closer to his family.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife-H. Jean (Timmons) Harris; sister, Jean Ann Dishong; and grandson, Jon Robert Morgan.

Survivors include: his children, Richard J. Harris, Angelina Boles, Tony (Angie) Harris, Monica Guest, Roger (Tish) Harris, Sandra Morgan; brother, Robert (Aline) Harris; sisters, Nancy Bigelow and Toni (Gil) Hoenicke; stepdaughter, Sheri Cooper; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
