Phyllis Marie Clevenger Alpert, 85, of Noblesville, passed away March 26, 2024. She was born March 21, 1939, in Indianapolis, daughter of Ruth Anna Caywood Clevenger and Ralph William Clevenger.
As a graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School in June 1957, Phyllis continued her education at Purdue University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1962 and then her Master of Arts degree from Ball State University in 1970.
On October 9, 1977, Phyllis and Dr. Arnold Lee Alpert were married at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.
Phyllis began her career as an elementary school art teacher in the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township in Indianapolis. She also taught at Scecina High School, Central Catholic, Little Floer and St. Jude, and St. Mark. In 2000, Phyllis retired from St. Mark after nearly twenty years of service.
Fashion design was one of her greatest interests. Phyllis and Arnold enjoyed watching hockey on television, and vacationing in Stratford, Ontario where they frequently attended Shakespearean plays.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Alpert; sister-in-law, Linda Loman Clevenger of Fishers; nieces, Dr. Victoria M. (Kenneth) Barnett of Asheville, NC, Elizabeth E. (Christopher) Schulhof of Fishers, IN; and great nieces, Margaret L. Smith and Abigail M. Jahns of Fishers, IN, and Leia S. Barnett of Asheville, NC.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Victor Reid Clevenger.
There will be a private family service.
