Philip Sammy France

Philip S France (Sam), 82, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. He was born April 23, 1943, in Anderson, Indiana and was a 1961 graduate of Madison Heights High School. Sam was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He attended Indiana University where he met his wife, Carol.  Upon graduation, he served 2 years in the US Army. 

Sam and Carol eventually settled in Greenfield, Indiana where they raised their 2 children, and Sam ran the sales company that he had started.  In 1996, he sold his business, and he and Carol moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina.  They resided there until 2021, when they returned to Indiana to live near their children in Westfield. 

His love for music motivated him to start a band in his new neighborhood, where he quickly made deep connections with others who shared his passion for music.  Sam also enjoyed writing songs and poems.

Sam was an accomplished salesman, avid golfer, loved to play piano and guitar, loved the Smokey Mountains, investing, technology, and continually educating himself on a wide variety of topics.  However, being a husband and father was always his priority.  He had an internal compass that he followed consistently.  He was successful in many outward ways, but he was truly motivated by what he felt in his heart was the right thing to do.

He valued deep connections with those around him.  It was always his desire that those people be able to carry on memories of his life and their time together. 

In accordance with that, it was his desire that there not be a funeral or memorial service.
