Norma Jeanette (Bass) Smith

Norma J. Smith, 70, 0f Carmel, IN, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She was born February 28, 1954 in Greensburg, IN to George J. And Mary Louise (Nieman) Bass.

Following her high school graduation, Norma attended Ball State University where she received a BA in Education and later obtained her CPA license. Norma worked at several life insurance companies and became a Finance Department Manager at Conseco/CNO before retiring.

Norma was a deeply private woman but met the love of her life on a dance floor, married, and enjoyed years of vacations in the sun. Her most loved activities were dining out, playing cards with a few very special friends, traveling with her kids, and visiting with lifelong friends from France. She was also a loving stepmom.  During the last 7 or more years of life, Norma also enjoyed many visits with the college brothers of her husband David, who are spread far and wide around the world. Without her, this would not have happened.

Through the years, Norma’s hobbies included winemaking, tennis, and golf where she scored a hole in one. Lucky she truly was!

In the last 4 years, she fell in love with her grandkids and showed them her infectious laugh. In the closing entries of her diary, Norma wrote how grateful she was for the sunshine, friendship of family, and great neighbors.

Survivors include her loving husband of 26 amazing years, David Smith; stepchildren, Scott (Milena) Smith, Emily Smith (Ben Oser), and Jenna Smith (Jeff Kelley); 2 grandchildren, Leo and Penelope, and one soon to be born; brothers, Kenny (Cheryl) Bass and Larry Bass; sister, Marcia (Jim) Henry.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 10 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Road, Carmel, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11am.
