Nancy Sue Smith, 75, of Indianapolis, passed away April 14, 2020. She was born August 28, 1944 in Martinsville, daughter of Loren and Velma (Baylift) Collins.
Nancy moved often during her early years which allowed many friendships to be formed. She was a 1962 graduate of Martinsville High School. Nancy married her sweetheart, Larry on March 12, 1965. She received her nursing degree from the Indianapolis University Training School for Nurses which was in conjunction with Wishard Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Following training, Nancy worked for Wishard Hospital until moving to Arlington, VA during the time her husband, Larry served in the US Army.
After completion in the military, Nancy and Larry returned to Indianapolis where Nancy used her nursing skills in a private practice with Dr. Warner. Nancy also worked with Nurse Finders after her first child was born. Nancy then began a twenty-year career to Blue Cross Blue Shield, where she worked as Case Manager. Before retiring in 2005, Nancy worked for ten years for Ask A Nurse.
As an avid reader, Nancy could spend hours reading whether it be mysteries, novels, or romances. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, mowing the lawn or any outdoor activity.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by brother, Gene Collins; sisters, Ruth Collins and Teresa Collins.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Larry Smith; sons, Larry Richard Smith, and Jeffery Todd (Toni) Smith; grandson, Nathan Michael Smith; granddaughter, Piper London Smith; brother, Alan Collins and sister, Linda Kay Collins.
Due to the pandemic regulations, a private graveside service will be held in Centerton Cemetery, Martinsville.
