Mary "Mary Kay" Chemelewski Obituary

Mary Catherine (Kay) Chemelewski, 80, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on October 20, 2024 from complications with dementia.  She was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on August 17, 1944 to Jeanette (Nichols) and Hillis Wehrle.

Mary Kay graduated from Central Catholic High School in Ft. Wayne.  She was an avid water skier, played the clarinet, twirled the baton and was in the marching band. Upon graduation she attended secretarial school. She met the love of her life, David Chemelewski, and they were married in Ft. Wayne on August 8, 1965.

After David established his career in Marion, IN they had the opportunity to move to Lancaster, PA where they spent 17 wonderful years raising their family.  She worked part time managing Roy’s Shoe Store and raising their three children. She was involved in Welcome Wagon, PTA, dinner group and card clubs. She loved to spend time with her family by boating, water and snow skiing, playing tennis and gardening.

David’s career took them back to Indiana in 1987. Mary Kay worked as an Administrative Assistant for Ohio Casualty Group in Castleton, IN. She and David also played bridge and euchre, enjoyed cooking with their gourmet dinner group, and boating on Morse Lake. Mary Kay also served on various committees at their church, Our Lady of Grace, and volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. She loved to garden and was president of the Garden Club for several years.

In retirement, Mary Kay and David traveled extensively, visiting family, skiing and enjoying the beach with their children and grandchildren.

Mary Kay was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her parents.

Mary Kay is survived by her three children, Karen (Paul) Roberts, Jeffrey Chemelewski, and Stefani (Bruce) Inskeep; grandchildren, Emily (Zach) Meyer, George Roberts, Megan Inskeep, Matthew (Molly) Inskeep, and Tyler Chemelewski; great grandson, Noah Meyer; sister, Sharon (Earl) Thomas; brothers, Larry (Patricia) Wehrle and Steven (Nely) Wehrle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
