Mary Lou Thatcher, 92, of Westfield, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was born June 17, 1927 in Sheridan, IN, daughter of George and Mamie Mae (Robison) Staley.
As a small-town girl, Mary Lou was born and raised in Sheridan. She was a 1945 graduate of Sheridan High School and attended business school in Indianapolis.
Mary Lou was a resident of Westfield for more than 60 years and served as the Westfield Clerk Treasurer from 1967 until her retirement in 1995. The town of Westfield named the street “Thatcher Lane” in honor of Mary Lou. She was a member of the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.
In April of 1950, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Avery Thatcher. Together they were devoted to their 4 children. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years, Avery Thatcher, Jr., and brother, Donald Staley.
Survivors include her children, Jeffrey (Barbara French) Thatcher, John (Paula) Thatcher, daughter, Georganna (Jay) Morin, and James (Terry) Thatcher; 9 grandchildren, Avery (Lisa) Thatcher III, Mika (Charlotte) Thatcher, Erik Thatcher, Gregory Morin, Patrick Morin, Christopher Morin, Austin Thatcher, Elizabeth (Christopher) Schoenfelder, Carolyn (Simon Levy) Thatcher; and 3 great-grandsons, Linden Thatcher, Beckett Thatcher, and Leo Thatcher.
A private family service will take place in Bussell Family Funerals, followed by a private committal service in Summit Lawn Cemetery, Westfield.
