Larry Miller Obituary

Larry Edward Miller, 78, of Noblesville, passed away March 9, 2021.  He was born in Greensburg, IN on August 22, 1942, son of Robert E V and Mary Catherine (Demaree) Miller.

Larry was a graduate of Granville Wells High School.  Following a blind date, and 3 months later, he married Joanne Tranter on October 19, 1963. He was a devoted husband more than 56 years.

In November 1961, Larry enlisted in the Air Force where he served 8 years active duty until December 1969.  In 1976, he re-enlisted into the reserves, retired in 1988, with 20 years of dedicated service to his country.  Following retirement from active military duty in 1969, they settled in Indiana where he lived until his death. 

Larry worked as an Operations Supervisor for Delta Air Lines for several years before retiring after 25 years of employment.  Additionally, upon retiring from Delta, Larry worked for DGS Services as well as Evergreen Aviation Ground Logistics Enterprises.  

In addition to his military service, Larry’s passions in life included his love of aviation, motorcycles, and auto racing.  Through the years Larry was a member of the American Modelers Association, where he built and flew model airplanes in competitions, and would travel to different venues around the US to compete.  Larry and his wife enjoyed riding the open road on his Honda Goldwing bike. He was an active member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. During the month of May, every year since 1972, Larry would partake in the annual Indy 500 race as a yellow shirt.  His final year was in 1995 after the 2nd Brickyard 400.  Larry was an active member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church for the past 5 years after moving from the southwest side of Indianapolis to Noblesville.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joanne Miller.

Survivors include his children, Robert (Paige) Miller of Carmel, Roxanne (Don) Bell of Indianapolis; siblings, Sharon (Harry) Duckworth, Mitzi (Mike) Marlett, Mary Margaret (Darzell) Stevenson; grandchildren, Christopher Jackson, Heather Jackson, Bronson Rago, Josh Bell, Alicia Ownbey, Deana Dennison-Bell, and Rich Bell; 11 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather Monday, March 15, 2021 from 4–7 pm in New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12550 Brooks School Road, Fishers, and again Tuesday, March 16 at 10 am, one hour prior to the Funeral Service at 11 am in the church.

Burial will take place at 1 pm in Lincoln Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6809 S Indianapolis Road. Whitestown, IN 46075.

In memory of Larry, and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12550 Brooks School Road, Fishers, IN 46037.  Envelopes will also be available at the church.
