Kevin Riemer Obituary

Kevin Riemer, 78, of Carmel, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019, after falling ill in early March. He was born in Hempstead, New York, on October 10, 1940, to Theodore and Mary (nee Reilly) Riemer. Kevin attended Our Holy Redeemer School in Freeport, New York, and Brooklyn Preparatory in Brooklyn, New York. He was a 1962 graduate of Fordham University, where he majored in mathematics.

After teaching math in a junior high school for two years, Kevin was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he went on to work as a computer analyst for the federal government at the Pentagon and in Washington, D.C. Kevin was transferred to the Ft. Benjamin Harrison Finance Center in 1973 working for the Defense Finance and Accounting Services until he retired in 2001. His involvement continued into retirement as he served as the treasurer for the local National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) chapter for many years.

Kevin married Kristina Vukas on August 2, 1969, at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Roosevelt, New York. They resided in Alexandria, Virginia, for four years before moving to their home in Carmel in October 1973.

Kevin was a charter member and active parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Carmel.

During his retirement years, Kevin enjoyed reading, completing puzzles, and taking leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. His Wednesday afternoon Bible study group provided him with new knowledge and new friendships. In recent years, Kevin began researching family history and loved the challenge of discovering links to his past. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Kevin is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Kristina. He was the loving and proud father of four children: Joanna, Brian (Keri), Mark, and Mariann Sylvester (Adam). While they were growing up, Kevin was never one to miss attending their sporting events and activities. Pops adored his two wonderful granddaughters, Reilly and Reagan Riemer. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Zita Vukas, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant daughter.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29th from 4-7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Rd, Carmel. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at the same location on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Committal service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens will follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider making a donation to: The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
