Karl Dean Miller passed away peacefully at home in Carmel, Indiana, on April 21, 2025, just three weeks after the passing of his beloved wife, Marie Thérèse Miller. Karl was born on January 10, 1933, in Thomas, Oklahoma, the son of the late Fred James Miller and Lillian Cooke Miller. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Fred James (Jim) Miller
As a young boy, Karl and his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he grew up. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in New Orleans during the Korean War, which ended just before he was scheduled to be deployed overseas. After his service, he graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla with a degree in Ceramic Engineering.
In 1959, Karl married the love of his life, Marie Thérèse. They moved to Kokomo, Indiana, to begin their life and family together. In Kokomo, they built a close-knit circle of friends, a tradition they continued wherever they lived.
Karl’s career with American Standard and Gerber Plumbing Fixtures took the family from Indiana to New Orleans, New Jersey, and Connecticut, before eventually returning to Kokomo. In retirement, Karl and Thérèse enjoyed living in Sarasota, Florida, before relocating to Indiana to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Karl loved golf, the St. Louis Cardinals, music, and proudly being a “Girl Dad” long before the term existed. He was actively involved in civic and community organizations in every place he called home.
He is survived by his daughters, Christiane Miller (Charles Petty), Karen Demerly, and Kathryn Moon; grandchildren, Danielle Schafer (Jared), Tyler Moon, Nathan Moon (Olivia), and Jessica Moon (Jake Treida); and one great-grandson, Jack Karl Schafer. He is also survived by his nephews, Dale Miller (Marilyn) and Alan Miller (Kathy), and their families.
Nothing brought Karl greater joy than being surrounded by his family. He established enduring friendships throughout his life and will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and generous spirit.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to a favorite charity of one's choice.
