Karen Kay Steddum, 75, of Westfield, left this world Sunday December 5, 2021.
Kay spent all her life caring for others as a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and nurse. Anyone who met her was immediately greeted with warmth and humor. Stories from throughout her life will be the legacy her loved ones carry with them forever. She was well-known for her cooking, beaded portraits, generosity, and non-judgmental attitude towards others in all walks of life.
There is no one quite like Kay and she will be forever missed by those who had the honor of being close to her.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Arin Winkel, and those whom she considered grandchildren, Shelby Vandever and Tiffany Vandever, among many others.
She is preceded in death by her sister and lifelong best friend, Evelyn.
Family wishes to thank Kay’s caregivers and everyone who helped her in keeping her independence, taking care of her cat Percy, and any others who contributed to her happiness in the last couple of years - your time and effort has been invaluable.
A formal service will not be held since Kay’s wishes were for those whom she cared for to meet with one another, share drinks, stories, and laughs.
A time and location for a Celebration of Life will be held privately, coordinated by Shelby Vandever.
Arrangements entrusted to Bussell Family Funerals, Westfield-Carmel.
