Judy Massey Obituary

Judy F. Massey, 71, of Carmel, passed away April 17, 2019.  She was born in Auburn, KY on February 29, 1948, daughter of Marlin and Christine Gammon Watkins.

There were a few times Judy and her friends would hitch a ride or take a bus to Nashville, TN, Louisville, KY or even to Indianapolis. Of course, during those excursions, Judy was to have been spending the weekend at her friend’s house. When asked, “weren’t you afraid something would happen to you?”  Judy responded with saying “I could fight like a wild cat if I needed to, but fortunately I never had to”.

One thing Judy loved was dancing.  She won three dance contests in her younger years.  She especially enjoyed the twist and the hoola hoop. She also loved to play bingo as well as visiting the casino occasionally. Judy worked as a waitress at a truck stop for several years.  She enjoyed talking to the truckers on her CB and was known by her handle Gypsy.  Later, Judy began working at Kroger, retiring after 22 years.

Judy wanted to visit the ocean to watch the waves batter the shore line.  She would say the bigger the better… however, that never came about.

Even though, Judy seemed fearless, she was fearful of flying and refused to even think about getting on an airplane.  We thought we had more time to travel by simply riding in the car.  Judy spent time in her car so she could hear the rain splatter on the roof. One rainy night, Malocka thought her mom was missing, only to find her asleep in her car listening to the rain.  She loved the rain, sitting on the porch and watching it pour.

Everyone who knew Judy, not only recognized she was a private person, but very stubborn too.  When Judy was first diagnosed with cancer, she did not want to share the news with anyone until the doctors were positively sure; but she was convinced this was one mountain she could not climb alone. Judy became stronger and was able to drive a car, it seemed as if the cancer was in

remission.  She fought the good fight.

Judy was greatly loved and will be greatly missed!!

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Massey, Sr. and son, Charles Massey, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Malocka Scott and son, Tony Massey; grandchildren, Rachel Stamper, Christine Massey and Haylie Scott; brothers, Glen Watkins, Darrell Watkins and Philip Watkins; sisters, Jane Plummer, Shirley Pedigo, Betty Riggs, and Barbara Miller.
