Joyce Rissler Wozniak

Joyce R. Wozniak, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away November 29, 2020 in Carmel, Indiana.
Joyce was born July 18, 1945 to Gilbert and Elsie Lopp Rissler of New Albany, Indiana. She graduated from Jeffersonville, High School in 1963, started undergrad at IU Southeast before transferring to ISU in Terre Haute, IN. It was this transfer that led her to a fateful meeting with her husband Alois “Al” Wozniak, while constructing the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority homecoming float.

Upon graduating in 1967 with a degree in Home Economics, Joyce accepted a teaching position in Merrillville, IN. That same year Al and Joyce married on June 8, 1968. Opportunity presented itself for career advancement and the couple moved to Phoenixville, PA. That same year, they moved further to Cleveland, OH where Joyce taught at Parma Jr. High School. In 1970, the couple returned to Indianapolis where Joyce accepted a teaching position at Ben Davis Jr. High School.

Ever dedicated to education and learning, Joyce finished her Master’s Degree in 1971 while tending to her newborn son.
They became members of their beloved Carmel community in 1978 when Joyce accepted a position at Carmel High School.
She was an active member of Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church for over 40 years and participated in the Steven’s Ministry, Lenten Group and the Sower’s Flower Group.

Joyce maintained a passion for flowers throughout her life and judged flower shows across the Midwest. Her passion led to her participation in the City of Carmel’s sister city program with Kawachinagano, Osaka, Japan where she helped plan Carmel’s Japanese Gardens.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Al; son, Randy, daughter-in-law, Ngoc and extended family and friends.
