James "Jim" Liggins Obituary

James “Jim” Cecil Liggins, 93, of North, VA, formerly of Boxley, IN, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  Jim was born January 7, 1927 in Sumas, WA, son of Archibal and Ida (Taylor) Liggins.

Jim was a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Korean Conflict, working on the railroad.  Upon his honorable discharge as Cpl, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Merit Unit Emblem.  Jim was also a pilot flying small planes from Vancouver, British Columbia to Washington DC.

Jim had many hobbies and interests. He spent several hours working in his apple orchard and generously sharing the harvest with neighbors and church family. Jim was a farmer at heart; he was a beekeeper, gardener, both vegetable and flower, as well as growing his vineyard.

A gentle yet strong spirit is a legacy Jim leaves behind.  He was a faithful servant of God, eagerly attending Sunday worship where he enjoyed fellowship with his church family.

Before retiring, Jim worked for Western Electric as a Tool and Die maker for 33 years.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Robert) Countiss of James Store, VA; granddaughters, Abigail and Rebecca Countiss; nephews, Curley (Rose) Dennison of Hope, British Columbia, Canada and Jim Bjarason of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada; niece, Carol "Cookie" Olson of Langley, British Columbia, Canada; several great-nieces and nephews.

A private family service will take place in Bussell Family Funerals followed by burial in Boxley Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be held later in Trinity Baptist Church, Westfield, of which Jim was a member.
