James B. Herdman, age 79, of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 8, 2021. He was born in Louisiana on October 22,1941, to parents Walter and Stella (Borel) Herdman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy; their children, Michelle (Leon) Thompson, Annette (Kevin) Affeldt, and Christopher (Vivienne) Herdman. He dearly loved and cherished his grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlin, Jake, Vanessa, Anthony, and step-grandchildren Shawn and Brynn.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Rita (Herdman) Brown.
Most important was the love Jim had for his family: he was a devoted husband for 55 years and a loving father and grandfather. Jim had a passion for life, adventure, and wanted to experience everything the world had to offer. He also loved cars, drag racing, woodworking, photography, drawing, classical and jazz music, art, art fairs, and playing cards. These passions have been carried on through his children and grandchildren.
Jim was a kind, generous, and loving man. After several tough years with medical challenges, he is at last at peace in Heaven. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Merciful Help Center (www.mercifulhelpcenter.org), a mission for those in need that the family has supported for many years.
Family and friends may show their love and support during visitation hours from 9:00-11:00 am, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Carmel, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.
