Hilda Mae (Darnell) Long

Hilda Mae Long, 91, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Monday, October 9, 2023. She was born October 20, 1931 in Commonwealth (Alleghany County), PA, daughter of Steven Darnell and Violet Tarr.

Because cooking and baking was a way to express love to her family and friends, Hilda enjoyed making candy, jellies, and salsa, as well as baking cookies and zucchini bread.  She was also known for having the best tasting potato salad and ham salad ever!

Hilda and Lewis (Fred) enjoyed spending time together hiking, hunting ginseng roots and mushrooms. Another favorite activity was camping in their trailer.

For more than 25 years, Hilda worked for McDonalds on West Washington Street, as the well-known and appreciated Host, before retiring.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her son, Steven Fredrick Long; and 8 siblings.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Lewis F. Long; children, Curt (Marcia) Rogers, Carolyn (Bill) Boxell and Mandi Braun; daughter-in-law, Karen Acton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

There is not a scheduled service at this time.
