Herbert R. Buchanan

Herbert R. Buchanan, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away December 30, 2019.  He was born January 7, 1937 in Peru, IN to Herbert J. and Elsie V (Kinyon) Buchanan.

Herb attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school and was a 1945 graduate of T.C. Howe High School.  He then studied at Earlham College for 2 years. On February 1, 1958, Herbert and Diane Campbell were married.

Before retiring, Herb worked as Head Production Printer for M.S.D. Washington Township Schools.

Herb enjoyed word working and tinkering on projects in his garage.  He enjoyed bike riding and spending time outdoors. Herb had many hobbies and interest. He could listen to jazz for hours at a time. He loved listening to the famous Beach Boys in the 60’s. He appreciated learning about different types of guns and knives.  His dearly beloved dog, Buddy and cat, Fergie were always at his side.

Time spent with his grandchildren and attending their many activities brought Herb the greatest joy of all. He also liked to eat at Bob Evans as often as possible.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his brother, David S. Buchanan.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Diane Lozzain Buchanan; daughters, Amanda L. (Charles) Sandefur and Virginia L.B. (Rick) Mahurin; grandchildren, Nina Campbell, Stephen Hardy, Francis Hardy, Fiona (Hardy) Campbell, Robert Hardy, Patrick Keitell, C.J. Sandefur, Abby Sandefur, and Storm Sandefur, Magnash Mahurin, Campbell Mahurin and Teague Mahurin.

A family committal service will be held in Washington Park Cemetery.
