Harris William Jones, Jr.

Harris William Jones, Jr, 75, of Carmel, passed away March 10, 2023. He was born March 27, 1947, son of the late Harris William Jones, Sr and Violet Julia (Parker) Jones in Springfield, IL.

As a 1965 graduate of Springfield High School, Harris continued his education at Springfield College, acquiring an associate degree in business administration. He later received a B.S. in marketing and general studies in business from Southern Illinois University. 

Harris was employed with Sears Roebuck Company for more than 20 years. He also worked in various sales roles before retiring in 2014. Harris served his country in the US Army RAAGC in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Carmel VFW Post #10003 where he made lifetime friends. Harris enjoyed enrolling in classes at the YMCA and volunteering for several organizations.

A special thank you to the VA Hospital, Dr. Jordan Schmitt, nurses, Stephanie, Karen and Jody for the excellent care the oncology team provided to Harris. He battled cancer for 20 years with strength and dignity, allowing him to connect with his cancer support community.

Survivors include his sons, Dean (Madison) Jones, and Andrew Jones; grandchildren, Calvin Jones and Nora Jones; brother, Kent (Cheryl) Jones; niece, Alicia Swope; and great-niece, Kendal Swope.

He will also be missed by his loving partner, Carol Branson.

Family and friends will gather Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10 am in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th Street, Carmel, where the Celebration of Life service will take place at 11 am with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Harris, may be given to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or Arthur Jordan Branch YMCA. Envelopes will be provided at the service.

The City of Marion Cemetery, Marion, IL will be where Harris is laid to rest.
