H. Duane Koon, 80, of Carmel, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, July 6, 2018. He was born in Anderson, IN on December 1, 1937, son of Hallard Dale and Mary Carolyn Houston Koon.
Duane was a 1955 graduate of Marion High School. He earned his B.A. and Master’s degree from Ball State University. Memberships included Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Gas City Masonic Lodge.
Duane married Jeannine Usher in 1959 and embarked on a career including Naval officer, Teacher and Pharmaceutical sales.
In retirement, Duane enjoyed driving a school bus, researching genealogy, working crossword puzzles, playing golf and dancing with Jeannine. He was an avid enthusiast for Carmel and appreciated the roundabouts.
In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Tammi; sister, Linda and brother, John.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jeannine; daughters, Juane (Jay) O’Rourke and Kenitra (Mark) Trausch; grandchildren, Donovan, Hailey and Jon O’Rourke, Nick, Chris and Evey Trausch, adopted grandchildren, Nathan and Aaron Mursch (referred to Duane and Jeannine as their Indiana grandparents); siblings, Phillip, Steve, Sharon, Greg and Cindy as well as other family and many friends.
Family and Friends will gather on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 10 am in Carmel Friends Church, of which Duane was a member, and where the funeral service will begin at 12 noon.
Burial will take place on Friday, July 13 at 11 am in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, Marion, IN with military honors.
In memory of Duane, donations may be given to the Food Pantry/Carmel Friends Church, 651 W Main Street, Carmel, or Riley Children’s Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the service.
