George E. Smith, 75, of Carmel, passed away June 16, 2018. He was born in Erlanger, KY on November 14, 1942, son of Oscar and Mary Jane Davis Smith.
George was a 1960 graduate of Lloyd Memorial High School in Erlanger, KY. He was employed as a meat manager with A&P grocery in Richmond and Noblesville, IN from 1961 to 1984. Before retiring in 2004, he worked for SuperValu as a meat specialist.
George enjoyed spending time working in his flower garden and tending to his pond filled with Koi. He also looked forward to his camping trips; however, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
George had a generous and tender heart for missions, which was obvious when he and Dixie chose to spend a year in New Orleans following hurricane Katrina in 2005.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Smith in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie Smith; children, Beth (Steve) Roberts, Amy (Donny) Lyon and Chris (Amy) Smith; grandchildren, Kyle Roberts, Ben Roberts, Brevin Smith, Chaylee Smith, Soren Lyon, Erika Lyon and Elin Lyon; step-children, Cherisse (Ed) Stevens, Charlie (Sara) Scott, Curtis Scott, Courtney (Shelly) Scott and Carla (Scott) Daly; 11 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Slater, Bonnie Murphy and Gayle Knapp.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 4-8 pm in Carmel Christian Church, of which George was a member since 1976. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10 am in the church. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens cemetery.
