Eugene Paul Rathbun, 88, of Lansing, Michigan entered Heaven on March 2, 2025.
On July 14, 1936, Eugene (affectionately known as Gene) was born to Charles and Bernice Rathbun. Gene embodied the true spirit of service and was known in his community for his boundless ambition and unwavering generosity. He graduated from Okemos High School in 1954 and served in the Michigan National Guard for 7 years. During this time, Gene met the love of his life, Lenora, and the two were married on September 7, 1957.
Gene was a dedicated leader who served on the boards of multiple organizations throughout his life, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Faith Church, and Lansing Youth for Christ, where he contributed his time and expertise to make a meaningful impact. Gene was a passionate collector of antique clocks and had an impressive collection of diecast model cars, which he proudly displayed throughout his home.
From 1966 to 1989, Gene dedicated himself to Rathbun Insurance, helping to instill the belief that ‘Being There Matters Most’. He cared deeply about people, often sitting with customers at their kitchen tables when their children turned 16, guiding them on how to best protect their families. For nearly a decade, he worked alongside his son, Paul, passing down his knowledge and unwavering commitment to the community. Today, his grandson, Ben, carries that legacy forward as the third generation, ensuring Gene and his brothers’ legacy lives on.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sons, Paul Rathbun and Jim Rathbun.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Lenora Rathbun; daughter, Cindy (Dirk) Case; daughters-in-law, Cat (Paul) Rathbun and Rachel (Jim) Rathbun. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua (Natalie) Case, Amanda (Trent) Wilson, Ben Rathbun, Sam (Maggie) Rathbun, Alyssa Rathbun, James (Ashleigh) Rathbun, Jeremiah Rathbun, and Shalyn Rathbun. Gene was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Naomi and Annelise Wilson, Josie and Julian Case, and Nora Rathbun. His family will remember him for his sense of humor, invaluable life lessons, and love for Christ.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11am in Faith Church, 2300 Lake Lansing Road, Lansing, MI, 48912, where the Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1pm.
