Obituary

Edward Leon Pursel , born on November 27, 1923, passed away on the morning of October 14, 2021 at the age of 97. He was born at the home of his parents, Arthur M. Pursel and Faye M. (Guilkey) Pursel of Carmel, Indiana.  He lived in Carmel his whole life.

After graduating from Carmel High School, Ed joined the United States Navy and served throughout World War II aboard the LST 49.  He served in the invasion of Normandy, the African, Atlantic and Pacific Theaters (including Okinawa). He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Signalman 3rd Class having been awarded 2 stars in the European Theater and 1 star in the Pacific, as well as Victory and Good Conduct ribbons and medals. He was proud to have served his country and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his shipmates.

Civilian life brought marriage to Virginia Rosalea Hanks, from Fishers, Indiana, which lasted for more than 70 years.

Ed is survived by his wife Rosie; his children; Judy Pursel, Jane Pursel (Rick) Warwick, and Jon Pursel; his four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He will be dearly missed by all.

Growing up on a farm in Carmel, Ed loved farming and continued to farm, raise beef and horses.  He pursued hairstyling as his livelihood, owning his own salon in the Glendale area until his retirement at the age of 70.

He was a member of the American Legion, Carmel VFW #10003, and held offices in the Lions Club, Carmel Chapter.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his older brother, Arthur Pursel, Jr.

Visitation will be held at 11 am Saturday, October 30, 2021 in White Chapel Church, 5155 E. 116th Street, Carmel, and where the Funeral Service will begin at 1 pm.

Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery with military honors.
