Donna Jean (Butler) Courtot

Donna J. Courtot, 94, of Avon, IN completed her journey in this life and has attained her desired position with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and eternal life in heaven. She was born May 25, 1928 in Indianapolis, daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Allen) Butler.

Donna attended Indianapolis Public School 91 and Broad Ripple High School.

Donna enjoyed working with children and drove the school bus for Heritage Christian School for 10 years. She then worked for the Eagle Union Elementary School in Zionsville, where she became Head Cook and became known as an “exceptional cook” The entire staff, students, and parents as well, dearly loved Donna. She later retired and continued to pursue her interest and talent for painting, becoming an outstanding artist in her later years. Donna was a devoted grandmother, left her legacy of love and many cherished memories to all who loved her.

For more than 65 years, Donna attended Baptist Churches in the Indianapolis area, primarily Colonial Hills Baptist Church and Crosspointe Baptist. God gifted Donna with a servant’s heart. She was always willing to serve and extend compassion to others and care for their needs. Donna taught Sunday School for many years, worked in the nursery, cared for the elderly, sick or disabled, and provided necessary items for those less fortunate. She volunteered to clean houses, shop for others, transport people when needed, and of course cook delicious meals.

Because Donna was known to be a wonderful cook, during the summers, she volunteered at Christian camps creating healthy meals for the kids.

Aunt Vera Rice, who lovingly raised Donna during her early years, was a strong Christian influence that lasted a lifetime. Donna married the love of her life, Armand H. Courtot on June 15, 1946, following the return of his service in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he served in the China-Burma-India theater. They began their family and were blessed with three sons.

 In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Armand H. Courtot; and daughter-in-law, Polly Courtot.

Survivors include her sons, Armand Max (Kathi) Courtot, Daniel John Courtot, Dennis Alan (Polly) Courtot; grandchildren, Armand David (Tennille) Courtot, Austin Joshua Courtot, Rachael Anne (Michael) McGLothlin,  Rebecca Elizabeth Courtot, Dennis Andrew Courtot; great-grandchildren, Johnathon Robert (Emerald) Courtot, Armand Elijah Courtot, Solomon Daniel Courtot, Tirzah Elese Courtot, Caleb Josiah Courtot, Judah Marcus Courtot, Tamar Isabella Courtot, Taliah Ruth Courtot, Elliott Soleil Courtot; great great-grandchildren, Dominic and Ezra.

A Graveside Committal Service will take place at 11 am Monday, August 22,2022 in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens cemetery, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis.
