Donald Zembrod Obituary

Donald Zembrod, 91, of Carmel, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughters by his side on Thursday, March 4, 2021. He was born September 20, 1929 in St. Louis, MO, son of August and Helene (Mahncke) Zembrod.

Donald was a proud US Navy veteran of 8 years, which included serving in the Korean Conflict.

In 1990, Donald retired from IBM after 35 years as Manager of offices in St. Louis, MO; Sioux Falls, SD; Milwaukee, WI; Indianapolis, IN; and Lafayette, IN.

Donald was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather who expressed his family was of greatest importance. His daughters said “We don’t get to choose our parents, but we are so blessed to have him as our dad.”

Donald was an avid reader of the National Geographic, Popular Mechanics, and astronomy. As a young man he enjoyed spending time working and tinkering on cars. He would often say, “I like to know how and why things work.”

Because Donald was a great swimmer and diver, during his teen years, he worked as a Lifeguard in Granite City, IL. Other interests included outdoor activities such as mowing grass, fishing, and hunting. He also played racket ball and enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Conrad Zembrod.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Wilma Zembrod of Carmel; daughters, Donna Zembrod of Carmel, Diane (David) Zembrod Senseman of West Chester, OH; grandchildren, Austin (Megan) Senseman, Elena Senseman; great-granddaughter, Rylie Senseman; and nephews, Don (Vickie) Zembrod and Tom Zembrod of Texas.

There will be no services for Donald at this time.
