Donald Fredrick Shannon, 83, of Plainfield, IN passed away March 17, 2026. He was born October 20, 1942, in Indianapolis, son of Paul and Laverne (Cox) Shannon.
As a 1960 graduate of Howe High School, Donald continued his education at Indiana University. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Donald worked as a Business Controller for the AAU and as a Continuous Care Coordinator for Odyssey Healthcare Hospice.
Donald found pleasure through the art he crafted from intricate paper patterns. Whether he was cutting, folding, or designing, he poured his heart into every piece, leaving behind creations as vibrant and unique as he was.
He had a playful spirit and a competitive streak that came alive around a card table. Euchre nights were among his favorites, filled with laughter, as he was equally delighted by a good game of Mexican Train dominoes.
A lifelong lover of sweets, he especially loved his ice cream of all flavors.
Above all, he was profoundly proud of his family. His sons were his greatest accomplishments and spoke of them with unwavering admiration. Becoming a grandfather brought him immeasurable joy, and his granddaughter lit up his world in a way nothing else could. His love for them was constant, deep, and unmistakable.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Shannon.
Survivors include his sons, Brent, wife, Allison Elliott Shannon, and Darren, wife, Heather Shannon; granddaughter, Sophia Shannon; brother, Terry, wife Joane Shannon.
Donald will be dearly missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
