Donald L. Moehn, 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Magnolia Springs Assisted Living in Carmel. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 9,1929, son of William E. and Juanita E. (King) Moehn.
In October of 1949, Don and Marguerite Barch were married at the Naval Receiving Station in Washington, D.C. They enjoyed 73 years of marriage. The couple made their home in Washington, D.C. area until 1972 when they moved to Carmel. Don and Marguerite were active members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Don was very active in the Carmel Clay Kiwanis Club and Hamilton County Red Cross. Prior to moving to Carmel, he had been active in the Oxon Hill Maryland Lions Club.
Don attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio before serving in the U.S. Navy for seven years. He was attached to the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington D.C. where he served as Registrar and a member of the Faculty Band playing the trombone. Don learned radio and TV services by self-study during that time and became a television service technician after leaving the Navy.
Don made his career in the life insurance industry for 35 years. He received his CLU Designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1967. In 1993, he retired from Indianapolis Life Insurance Company as Director of Education and Training after serving as a Regional Vice President and General Agent.
As an accomplished stained-glass artist, Don recreated original Tiffany patterned lamps as well as designing his own lamps and panels. He was also interested in 35MM photography and produced multi-image slide shows for training applications. Don was self-taught in everything he learned with his motto being “nothing beats a try but a failure.”
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marguerite in 2022; and brother, Jimmie R. Moehn.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Sandy (Phil) Robinson; grandson, Andrew (Krist Ecret-Forrester); and granddaughter, Rebecca.
The family wishes to thank the caring private duty nurses as well as the staff at Magnolia Springs for their patience and loving care of Don.
