Donald Thomas Bryan, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in his home on December 5, 2020. He was born in Indianapolis on October 5, 1934, son of Edward and Louise (Gibbs) Bryan. He attended Broad Ripple High School and later joined the US Navy.
Don married his dream girl, Barbara Jones, November 27, 1954 in her parent’s home. They remained committed to God and each other for 66 years.
Don enjoyed fishing, primarily freshwater such as bass. He also looked forward to warmer weather so he could spend time playing golf. In his earlier years, Don played softball, became a good pitcher, and helped to have a winning team.
As a Sunday School teacher, Don devoted time studying and teaching God’s word to the 7th and 8th grade boys. One of the boys told Don he memorized I Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will no suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” Don also was a leader in the King Sons, a group of young boys at Colonial Hills Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed weekly lunches with his ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) friends.
For ten years, Don and Barbara were committed to spending several months each year serving at Regeneration Reservation, an Indian reservation in Fort Thomas, AZ.
Before retiring, Don worked several years as Office Manager with Perfit Products Company and Steel Sales Company in Indianapolis. His later years were spent as a Salesman with Edgcomb Metals, which later became Precision Steel.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Bryan, Ed Bryan, Jr., and Pat Bryan.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Barbara A. (Jones) Bryan; daughter, Kathy (Ted) Linn; sons, Gus (Mary) Bryan, Scott (Marie) Bryan, and Ken (Rita) Bryan; 12 grandchildren, Angela, Bryan, Christina, Adam, Jenny, Kim, Chelsea, Scotty, Tessa, Taylor, Evan and Blake; 21 great-grandchildren.
Family and Friends will gather Friday, December 11, 2020 at 10 am in Colonial Hills Baptist Church, of which Don was a longtime member, and where the Funeral Service will begin at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in memory of Don, be directed to Colonial Hills Baptist Church Christmas Fund, or the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be available at the service.
