Dee Ann Hinkle, 85, of Kokomo, IN, joined her Savior, Jesus, in Heaven on May 31, 2025.
Dee was born in Connersville, IN on August 2, 1939, to James V. and Martha Shafer and was the beloved sister of Linda Fry and Barry Shafer.
On March 28, 1991, she married the love of her life, Charles K. Hinkle, and together they were happily married for 34 years. Together, they had a blended family of Dee’s five children, Tim Fisher, Laura (Mark) Eakin, Tom (Sue) Fisher, Cynthia (Pat) Chavez, and Amy (John) Duranto; and Charles’ two sons, Kenneth (Becky) Hinkle and Kevin (Vicki) Hinkle; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, with three more due this year, all of whom they wouldn’t hesitate to brag on and love dearly.
Dee loved her family and spent much of her life hosting family gatherings for every holiday, attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as she could, and hosting numerous sleepovers for each of the grandchildren as they grew up. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and caring for her friends and loved ones.
During her early adulthood, Dee served in the United States Air Force. As a mother and grandmother, she was an active member of her local church and a volunteer at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her brother, Barry Shafter and sister-in-law Donna; brother-in-law, John Fry; and daughter-in-law, Carol Fisher.
Dee’s life will be celebrated by her family in a private gathering.
