Dawn Renaye Callahan, 49, of Carmel, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was born April 29, 1974, in Indianapolis to Sandra Jean (Swails) Callahan and the late Michael Callahan.
Dawn was a 1992 graduate of Carmel High School and attended IUPUI. Dawn had a love for office supplies as a child, so it was no surprise that she worked as an office manager for various companies. Most recently, she managed a law office, but her favorite job was working side by side with her mom for several years.
Dawn loved life and lived it without apology. She chose to live life to the fullest, evidenced by her infectious laugh. She cherished her friendships and relationships and maintained them throughout her life. Dawn followed in her dad’s footsteps and became a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan. She surrounded herself with purple and yellow to represent her love for SKOL.
Even though Dawn would describe herself as stubborn, she also was tender-hearted, confident, kind, funny, and always a day dreamer. Some of life’s principles learned on her journey: always be kind, love often, and continue to have an open mind. Dawn especially loved music. She loved singing karaoke with her big sister and loved sharing the songs written for her by her big brother. She even insisted on making the playlist for her Celebration of Life.
Dawn had many people in her life who helped shape her into the amazing person she was: Courtney (the daughter she never had), Lynda (a second mom), Brooke (her best best best friend), Chris (her best guy friend), Doug (her other best guy friend), Shana (her other best best friend), John (the bonus brother she never knew she needed), and of course each and every person in her big family.
Survivors include: her son, Steven “Calin” (Ivana) Smith; mother, Sandra Callahan (Ernie); sister, Susan (Greg) Kemple; brother, Michael “Scott” (Shasta) Callahan; brother, John Palmer; nieces and nephews: Jackson Kemple, Lucy Kemple, Michael Kemple, Addison Callahan, Julia Callahan, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins.
Family and friends will gather Monday, June 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. in Traders Point Christian Church North, 1242 W. 136th Street, Carmel,
where the Celebration of Life service will begin at 4 p.m.
