Curtis Joseph Butcher, 81, of Carmel, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020. He was born August 11, 1939 in Monroe County, IN to the late Estell and Elsie (Arthur) Butcher.
The law offices of Curtis J. Bucher have represented clients in Carmel, IN and several other states since 1975. The firm has earned the trust of clients through growing and protecting their businesses to acquisitions. Because Curtis was also a CPA, he provided additional expertise to his client’s estate planning and probate. Whether large, small, or beginning business, Mr. Butcher provided expert seasoned advice and guidance. His one on one personalized assistance gained long term clients.
Since 1972, Curtis has been admitted to the Indiana State Bar, Supreme Court, US Court of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh Circuit. He has practiced Real Estate and Business Law including negotiations and helping businesses expand into franchises. In addition, his expertise in 1031 like-kind property exchanges provided excellent help for many Commercial Real Estate owners. In 48 years, Curtis has never had a contract to be sued nor has he ever lost a case.
Mr. Butcher has been a Consultant for nearly every type of business transaction. He also served as co-counsel for a SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) violation which led to liquidation of real estate transactions across the country.
Mr. Butcher also served 2 years as Deputy Attorney General for the State of Indiana.
He earned a BS Degree in accounting at Indiana University. In addition, he earned his Law Degree from Indiana University while completing the requirements to become a CPA.
The interest Curtis had in architecture led to the historic downtown Carmel total renovation, including the beauty and uniqueness of his law office building. In 2009, Curtis received an award from the city of Carmel and Chamber of Commerce.
Lora and Jason, children of Mr. Butcher, worked in the Law Office. Mary Ann, his wife, retired schoolteacher, helped train all office staff.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Ann (Hiatt) Butcher; children, Lora Butcher and Jason Butcher; sister, Brenda Earnshaw.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 10 am in the Northview Chapel, 12900 Hazel Dell Parkway, Carmel, IN 46033, where the Funeral Service will begin at 12 noon.
A Committal Service will follow in the Carmel Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
