Charlyene Mae VanCleave, 86 of Carmel, became an angel in the presence of our Lord on August 14, 2021 after a battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Indianapolis on March 4, 1935 to Ray and Lucille (Davis) Jaggar. Charlyene was a 1953 graduate of Broadripple High School.
In her early days, Charlyene was a loving and devoted homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and upholsterer. She enjoyed cooking, working puzzles, and absolutely anything to do with arts and crafts. She also enjoyed gardening and really loved all kinds of flowering plants.
Charlyene worked at First Baptist Church of Indianapolis and was also their Wedding Coordinator for many years.
Later in life, Charlyene developed an interest in watching and following the Indianapolis Colts. She even had Colts’ pompoms and other paraphernalia to root them on during the games.
In addition to her parents, Charlyene was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Van) Van Cleave; son, Mark Lewman VanCleave; and brothers Merritt (Joanna) and Lynne Jaggar.
Survivors include her sons, Chris (Lisa) Herbert, and Dean (Linda) Jaggar; grandchildren, Jared and Karli Herbert, Terra (Kurtis) Kim, Blake Richards; and great-grandchildren, Connor Kim and Milania Richards.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Bussell Family Funerals, 1621 E. Greyhound Pass, Carmel, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Service will begin at 12:00 PM.
Burial will follow at the family burial plot in Bainbridge Cemetery next to her husband Van, and their son Mark Lewman VanCleave.
