Carolyn Ruth Booher passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the age of 94.
Carolyn was born in Indianapolis on April 8, 1927 to Clyde Edwards and Pearl Quackenbush Edwards. She grew up as an only child on the east side of Indianapolis and attended Arsenal Tech High School before studying at Butler University.
Carolyn married Jack Edwin Booher on August 29, 1948 and moved “far north” to Westfield, Indiana. In the mid-1950s, the couple settled in Carmel, Indiana, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Jack and Carolyn were married for almost 67 years until his death in July 2015. Carolyn was a devoted mother to Mark and Marcia, adoring grandmother to Lizzie (her namesake: Carolyn Elizabeth) and Ben Booher, and doting great-grandmother to Danielle McConaghy.
Carolyn worked as a secretary for Carmel Clay Schools at Carmel High School and in the administrative office. She and Jack were active members of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, where Carolyn served as an Elder. She also volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel.
Guided by a deep and abiding faith, Carolyn was humble, kind, and thoughtful, never speaking in judgment and never missing an opportunity to send a note or birthday card. She was the soul of the family, a gentle and supportive person who deeply loved her family, and they loved her.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living on Old Meridian in Carmel and to Paradigm Health, especially Hospice Nurse Tammy.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Booher, and her son-in-law, Ron Spencer. She is survived by her two children, Mark (Celia) Booher and Marica Spencer, her two grandchildren, Lizzie Booher and Ben Booher, and her great-granddaughter Danielle McConaghy.
The family will celebrate Carolyn’s life with a small, graveside service on Saturday, January 22.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Carmel Clay Public Library Foundation, Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, or the Carmel Clay Education Foundation.
Bussell Family Funerals is privileged to assist the family in arrangements.
