Betty Lou (Castner) Smith, 90, of Fishers, passed away December 2, 2023. She was born November 14, 1933 in Pittsboro, IN, daughter of John and Stella (Montgomery) Castner.
Betty was a 1951 graduate of Pinnell High School, where she was class Valedictorian. She was employed as a Bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward Department Store and later Bethesda Baptist Church. Betty was a member of the Perry Township (Boone County) Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary. She also served as a volunteer with the Widow’s Jar Ministry for a number of years.
The greatest joy in life for Betty was loving her husband, children and grandchildren unconditionally and living the example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was an avid gardener, which allowed her the pleasure of canning vegetables and preserving her harvest. She was also known as an outstanding cook and excellent baker, whether it was cookies, cakes, or pies. Betty was a voracious reader, especially her Bible, as well as many other genres.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Everett Smith; brothers, Raymond Castner, Donald Castner, and John Castner.
Survivors include her sons, Larry (Cyndi) Smith, Roger (Wendy) Smith, David (Mary Lynn) Smith, and John (Susan) Smith; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Castner Watkins, and Linda Castner Davis.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 9 am in Colonial Hills Baptist Church, where Betty had been a faithful member more than 20 years, and where the Funeral Service will begin at 10 am.
Entombment will take place in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Zionsville at 1:30 pm.
