Betty Mason Obituary

Betty "Jean" Mason, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 18, 2023. Jean was born January 26, 1932 in Indianapolis, IN, daughter of William and Anna (Caswell) Falconbury. As a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Jean was a 1950 graduate of Ben Davis High School and a student at Jordan College of Music in Indianapolis. As a young girl,Jean and her parents were active members of Bethany Christian Church. Ken Mason and his family were also committed members of Bethany. As a result of Jean and Ken growing up together in the church, Ken became the love of her life, and they were married December 9, 1951.

Jean was a piano teacher for nearly 30 years.......even longer if you include her two grandsons as “students”. She was the pianist-organist at Bethany Christian Church for many years. Also, Jean was the pianist for the Bethanaires Gospel Trio of which her husband Ken, was a member. They were privileged to perform throughout the Midwest during the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Jean was an extraordinarily devoted mother and grandmother. She was a tireless source of support and encouragement to countless friends and family members throughout her life. As a devoted Christian, nothing gave Jean greater pleasure than sharing God’s word with others. She was also delighted and proud to announce to anyone who cared to listen,when her husband Ken retired, that she was also retiring......from cooking. For the next 35 years, local restaurants were the beneficiaries of those simultaneous retirements.

Survivors include her son, David (Susan) Mason; two grandsons, Joshua and Christopher Mason; and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Isaiah, and Hunter Mason.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by husband, Ken. A family gathering and Celebration of Jean’s Life is planned and will be presided over by their long-time friend and Chaplain.
