Barbara Ann Gadberry, of Carmel, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the vibrant age of 94. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. Barbara’s life was a testament to love, kindness and resilience with a smile that was contagious.
Barbara was born March 14, 1931, to Charles and Pauline Scott in Sullivan, IN, where she met and married the love of her life, Robert Gadberry. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Sullivan High School.
Bob and Barbara were married on September 25, 1949, and together they raised two daughters in the home that Bob built.
Even though Bob passed away in 2017, after 68 years of marriage, their bond was unbreakable, and Barbara would continue his legacy by sharing stories of her “sweetheart”. Their relationship was one everyone aspires to experience, full of love, trust, kindness and unwavering support.
Barbara was an active member of the Church at the Crossing and the Carmel Literary Club. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards with friends, (even though she always said she was terrible at it), but family was her true love. Her smile could light up the room every time she entered.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Gadberry; daughter, Deborah Gadberry; sister, Jan Burchard; and brother Danny Scott.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Lowell) Straw; granddaughters, Karen Darnaby (Moises Corona) and Kristen Darnaby; great-grandchildren, Lily, Landon, and Jackson Smith; later she welcomed step granddaughters, Jennifer (Chico) Mbanu and Kelly (Quincy) Stewart and their children, Adanna and Akagha Mbanu, Langston, and Zora Stewart.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 10 am in Church at the Crossing, 9111 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis, where the Funeral Service will begin at 11 am.
A Committal Service will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 12 noon in Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan, IN.
