Annette Louise Martin (Quigley) of Carmel, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Westfield, Indiana, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born on May 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, Annette was the eldest of four children born to Grant and Louise (Meyer) Quigley.
From a young age, Annette naturally assumed the role of caregiver, a quality that would remain central to her character throughout her life. Annette graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio, in 1962 before pursuing a nursing career—a path that perfectly aligned with her compassionate and nurturing nature. She earned her nursing degree from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1965, and soon after, made Carmel, Indiana, her home. It was there she met the love of her life, James K. Martin, Jr. Their love story, as Jim fondly recalls, began when Annette was his nurse after he broke two vertebrae. He often says, “We met in bed.” The rest was history. They married on August 5, 1967, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, beginning a beautiful, long life together.
Annette’s nursing career spanned more than four decades. She worked at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Indiana, specializing in emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, and obstetrics. She later worked at Hamilton Heart Care and Ascension St. Vincent, from which she retired in 2018. In addition to her nursing career, Annette was deeply committed to her community. She was involved with the State Fire Ladies Auxiliary and served as president of the Carmel Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she spearheaded fundraising efforts to purchase the department’s first ambulance—a testament to her tireless dedication to supporting first responders like her husband, Jim.
Annette’s passions included reading, gardening, and selflessly helping others. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, who she cherished deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Louise (Meyer) Quigley.
Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Jim; siblings, Sue, Tim, and Ed; children, Steve (Kris), Dave (Kim), Rick (Holly), and Candy; eight grandchildren; and soon to be twelve great grandchildren.
Annette’s strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to others leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, perseverance, and a commitment to making the world a better place. She will be remembered for her gentle voice, her compassionate heart, and her unrelenting spirit. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, caregiver, and friend, Annette touched the lives of everyone she met.
Family and friends will gather from 4-6pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road, Carmel, IN 46033, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 10:30am.
We invite all those who knew and loved Annette to join us as we celebrate her life and the immense joy, she brought to all of us.
May God continue to bless Annette, and may she rest in peace, held in His loving hands.
