Richard Robert "Rick" Strohmeyer

Richard Robert "Rick" Strohmeyer, 64, of Westfield, IN, passed away in his home on December 29, 2017, lovingly surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 14, 1953 in St Louis, MO, the third child of Russell and Shirley Garvelman Strohmeyer.  Rick was a 1972 graduate of St John Vianney High School and attended Meramec Community College.

In March of 1972, Rick began employment at Sears, Roebuck and Company.  He was soon promoted as Manager for Sears Logistics and later Innovel Solutions which are subsidiaries of Sears.  Before moving to Indianapolis in 1993, Rick worked in Memphis, TN for a year and Chicago, IL for 3 years.   Plans were to retire on December 31, 2017; however, his 5 year battle with prostate cancer changed those plans.

Rick was known for his infectious and contagious laugh. As a young man, he made friends quickly and easily so many became lifelong friends. They enjoyed adventure and were privileged to travel the country during their summers having made many great memories.

Rick was a founding member of the Little Rascals Rugby Club.  He loved the sport and played for 18 years.  The majority of those years he played with the Black Sheep Rugby Club.

Rick loved to play Euchre, Bridge and most of all Poker.  He played in a Friday night league for several years.  Rick was a gifted handyman, and enjoyed helping his children with their home projects.  When possible, he also liked to spend time gardening, camping and canoeing.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Russell Strohmeyer.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Garvelman Strohmeyer; his loving wife of 36 years, Karen Deters Strohmeyer; children, Kelly Pottorff ( fiancAC.e, Joe Pettygrove), Justin (Kristina) Strohmeyer, Mitchell Strohmeyer, Matt (Kayla Dorton) Strohmeyer, Libby Strohmeyer (Brian Dunscomb) and Megan Strohmeyer; grandsons, Joseph Pettygrove and Thomas Pettygrove; granddaughters, Tessa Pettygrove, Molly Pottorff, Haley Pettygrove and Rosemary Strohmeyer; brothers, Gary, Bill, Jim, Steve and Tom Strohmeyer; sister, Nancy (CJ) Zander  mother-in-law, Sue Frazier;sister-in-law,Nancy Thomason; brother-in-law, Gary Thomason, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 12 noon with visitation beginning at 10 am in St Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 17104 Springmill Road, Westfield, IN.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rick can be given to Feed My People, 171 Kingston Drive, St Louis, MO  63125 or Friends of Kids with Cancer, 530 Maryville Centre Drive, St Louis, MO 63141.  Envelopes will be available at the service.
