Murieta Lynette Short Covington was born on August 4, 1966, to the proud parents of James and Annette Short in San Francisco, California. During her childhood, she was bicoastal between San Francisco and Birmingham, Alabama. However, she always felt her heart belonged to San Francisco and considered it "home".

In 1984, she graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She then earned a Bachelor in General Studies and Minor in Political Science from Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 2000. She continued pursuing higher education earning her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2004.

In March 1993, she married her soul mate, Vincent Covington. They are the loving parents of three sons: Brian Prince II, Bradley Covington and Byron Covington. Murieta was a dedicated wife to Vincent and mother to their three sons. She also shared her love, commitment, and passion with everyone she encountered. She was considered the rock of her family; the glue that kept everyone together. Professionally, she served as a Former Counsel for Ingersoll Rand, in Carmel, Indiana. Murieta was an active member of Traders Point Christian Church and was highly involved in her Women's Group. Her charitable contributions included but are not limited to her serving less fortunate families in gift giving during the holidays.

Our Beloved was preceded in death by her dear grandmother, Pattie Mae Dudley Matthews and her father, James Short.

She leaves as survivors: her husband Vincent Covington; her sons Brian Prince II (Kristen), Bradley and Byron Covington; her precious granddaughter Ava Prince; her mother, Annette Short; her siblings, Marquetta Short Hodge, Moe Short and Marlon Short; and six nieces and five nephews.
