Mildred was a 1937 graduate of Forest High School in Clinton County, IN. During her high school years, Mildred met Meurice (Bill) Gaylor and two years later, they married on October 8, 1939. Before their marriage, Mildred worked at a car dealership in Kokomo IN.

Following their marriage, Mildred and Bill worked at grocery stores in Westfield and Kirklin and finally became owners of a grocery in Tipton.  Later they sold their Tipton store and moved to Clinton County where they began farming.

In 1949, they moved to Marion IN to further their education at Marion College. Mildred and Bill then served in  Ministry to three different IN churches before moving back to Marion in 1959.  Mildred was employed by Marion Community Schools until her retirement in 1981.

She moved to Carmel in 1996 following her beloved husband's death to be near her children and grandchildren.  Mildred was very active in the churches they served, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, and Junior Church.  She also played the piano and sang duets with her husband. Mildred was a member of College Wesleyan Methodist Church in Marion, IN. Since living in Carmel, Mildred attended Carmel Friends Church where she was a faithful member of a Bible Study Group.

Mildred and her devoted husband, Bill, were known to be inseparable as they loved each other deeply.  On the evening of her death, she talked about how much she missed him even though he had been gone for 25 years.  She was known as a quiet lady; however, her smile said everything, and her laugh will always be remembered.
