Martha Jane Habing

Martha Jane Habing, 67, of Carmel, went to live with the Lord on Tuesday June 26, 2018 while at St. Vincent Hospice. She was born on February 9, 1951 to the late Karll and Beatrice Mould, and spent her childhood in Westfield, New Jersey.

Martha was a 1973 graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in Merchandising.  Martha and Richard Habing were married five years later and were looking forward to celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in July.

One of Martha’s greatest joys in life was when she became a Catholic and joined Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering in the food pantry and attending Bible Studies.  One of the many ways Martha expressed love for her community was being active in the Carmel Chamber where for two years she chaired the Fourth of July Parade. Martha was a member of the Carmel Rotary Club and served on the Community Service Committee where she was involved in the holiday project to help the needy.  Other memberships included the Carmel Library Guild and the Broad Ripple Garden Club. Martha loved giving to others even to the end of life as she chose to be an organ donor.

Martha and Richard enjoyed attending Notre Dame football games and Indy-car events together.

Survivors include her husband Richard; sister, Bea (John) Reifeis of Frostproof, Florida; brother, Dr. Thomas Mould of Silver Spring, Maryland; brother-in-law, Mike (Marty) Habing of Columbus, Ohio; eight nieces and nephews; many loving friends; and her beloved cats, Scalliwag and Muffin.

Family and friends will gather on Monday, July 2 from 4 to 7 pm in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church,14598 Oak Ridge Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 am with visitation one hour prior to service.  Interment will take place at 2:30 pm in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Martha, may be given to the Food Pantry, a ministry of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church.  Envelopes will be available at the service.
